Measure around the widest part of the chest, just behind the front legs, and around the neck where a collar sits. If the chest and the weight point to different sizes, go by the chest. Between two sizes, take the larger one.

In detail
Ready at the door before the leash is off the hook: a Maltese, in our padded harness.
On a small dog it looks like a tiny jacket: the padded body panel around the chest, two neat straps, two buckles that click and a metal D-ring on the back for the leash. XS starts at a chest of 14 in and a neck of 11 in. Under all that fluff, a small chest can measure smaller than it looks, and many Chihuahuas and some Yorkies measure under 14 in: measure first, snug, just behind the front legs. If the chest is under 14 in, this harness is too big for your dog: write to us before you order.
Small dogs cover a block in a lot of quick steps and stop to check on every one of them: a sunny waterfront, a slack leash, a trot that never quite slows down.

Care
- Wipe it with a damp cloth and a little mild soap, then let it air dry flat, away from a heater or direct sun.
- Check the straps, stitching and buckles before each walk; stop using it if a buckle cracks or a strap frays.
Step by step
How to use it
Open both buckles and loosen the straps.
Put the harness on with the D-ring on your dog’s back, between the shoulders.
Close the buckles until they click.
Tighten the neck and chest straps until two fingers slide flat under every strap, no more.
Clip the leash to the D-ring on the back.
Check the fit again after the first few walks.

Is this the same harness as the other breed pages?
Yes. It is the same SANPO harness as on the Corgi, Dachshund and Frenchie pages, at the same price, in the same 11 colors and four sizes. Here it is shown on a Maltese, with the sizes small dogs usually take.
Which size for a Chihuahua, a Yorkie or a Pom?
Measure first. XS is for a chest of 14 to 17 in, S for a chest of 18 to 22 in. Many Chihuahuas and some Yorkies measure under 14 in, and then XS is too big: write to us at contact@sanpodog.com with the measurements before you order. Wrap the tape just behind the front legs, under the fluff, and go by the chest over the weight. The full chart is on our size guide.
My dog is tiny. Is XS small enough?
XS is for a chest of 14 to 17 in and a neck of 11 to 13 in. If your dog measures under that, this harness is too big: write to us at contact@sanpodog.com with the measurements before you order, and we will tell you plainly.
Can I pick my dog up with the harness on?
Yes, in your arms. Just never lift or carry your dog by the harness or the leash.
How do shipping and returns work?
Shipping is included in the price; there is no separate delivery charge. Orders ship within 1 to 3 business days, then take 7 to 12 business days in transit, so allow about 8 to 15 business days from order confirmation. We deliver to the 50 US states and Washington, D.C. Import duties and customs fees are paid by us. If a carrier ever asks you for any, contact us and we will cover it in full. Unused items in their original condition and packaging can be returned within 30 days of delivery. You can try a harness or a collar on your dog indoors to check the size: if it is clean, undamaged and has never been worn outside, it still counts as unused. Opened rolls of bags cannot be returned. A product that arrives defective, damaged or wrong, or shows a defect within those 30 days, is replaced or refunded, even if it has been used. Return shipping for a change of mind is paid by the customer; we send the return address by e-mail, and it may be outside the United States. For a defective, damaged or wrong item, we pay it. You can cancel at no charge until your order ships.
