Materials & Prop 65

Last updated November 6, 2026

What each SANPO product is made of, as the maker describes it, what we are still confirming, and the California rules we follow: Proposition 65, and the rule on how plastic products such as poop bags may be described. Our product pages describe each piece as the maker describes it, and say so. What we are still confirming in writing is listed on this page. We do not fill a gap with a guess. How to fit, use and care for each product is on our Fit & Safety page.

Where things stand

  • Materials: we describe them as the maker describes them, for example “coated webbing” for the leash and the collar and “silicone” for the Bag Holder. The table below lists them, product by product.
  • Our checks: we are collecting, from the maker, written confirmation of the materials and the construction of each product, and lab reports for our own units, not for similar products sold by others.
  • Proposition 65: no Proposition 65 warning is printed today, because none has been determined for our products. If the maker’s lab report for our units requires one, we will add it.
  • No “free of” claims: we do not describe any product by a chemical it does not contain, on this website or on our packaging.
  • Plastic bags: our Poop Bags are plastic, and we make no “biodegradable”, “compostable” or other environmental claim about them.
  • Orders: the shop does not take orders yet. As the maker’s answers and the lab reports come in, we publish them here and on the product pages.

What each product is made of

The middle column is the maker’s description. The third column is what we are collecting in writing from the maker. Once we have it, we publish it on the product page and on this page.

Every product is imported. We are confirming the country of origin of each one with the maker. It must be marked on the product or its packaging, as US customs rules require, and we will tell you on request.

Why we say “coated webbing”

The leash and the collar are made of webbing, a flat woven strap, under a smooth plastic coat that wipes clean. In straps of this kind, the webbing is usually polyester and the coat is usually PVC or TPU, two different plastics. Coated straps are also sold under several brand names and trademarks, which say little about what a particular strap is made of.

The maker has not yet confirmed in writing which plastic coats our straps, and which one it is matters for the lab reports we are collecting. So we use the plain description, “coated webbing”, and nothing more. Once the maker confirms it in writing, we will say which it is on the product pages and on this page. Until then, the only things we say about the strap are what you can see and do with it: it is flat and smooth, and it wipes clean with a damp cloth.

Our checks and what is still pending

What we are collectingStatus
The maker’s written description of the materials and construction of each productBeing collected
Lab reports for units of our own products, covering the chemicals listed under California Proposition 65, for the coated webbing, the harness fabric, padding and straps, the buckles, the metal hardware and the silicone of the Bag HolderBeing collected
The maker’s written statement on the plastic of the Poop Bags and anything added to itBeing collected
The country of origin of each productBeing collected
Measurements: the neck range of each collar size, the length and width of the leash and the collar, the size of the bagsBeing collected

We publish a result only once we have it in writing, for our own units. We do not borrow another seller’s documents, and we never describe a product as having passed a check that is still pending. We do not hold any certification for our products, and we do not claim one.

California Proposition 65

California’s Proposition 65, in plain words, asks businesses to give a clear and reasonable warning before they expose people in California to a chemical on the state’s list of chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm, unless the exposure is low enough that no warning is needed. The list is kept by the State of California and has hundreds of chemicals on it, some of which can be found in plastics, coatings and metal parts of everyday products.

No Proposition 65 warning is printed on our pages or on our packaging today, because none has been determined for our products. We are collecting the maker’s lab reports for our units to find out. If a lab report shows that a product needs a warning, we will add it to that product’s page, where you see it before you buy, and to the product or its packaging, before we sell that product.

No “free of” claims

We do not describe any of our products by a chemical or a group of chemicals it does not contain, on this website, in our e-mails or on our packaging. Until the lab reports for our units are in, we make no claim about the chemical content of our products at all. When the reports arrive, we will publish what they say, in plain words, and only for the units they cover.

Plastic bags and the California rule

Our Poop Bags are plastic bags. Section 42357 of California’s Public Resources Code does not allow a plastic product to be sold in California with the words “biodegradable”, “degradable” or “decomposable”, or with anything that suggests it will break down in a landfill or elsewhere. It does not allow the words “compostable” or “home compostable” on a plastic product unless the product meets specific standards the law describes. The Federal Trade Commission’s Guides for the Use of Environmental Marketing Claims also ask that any environmental claim be clear and backed by reliable evidence.

What we do: we make none of these claims. We do not call our bags biodegradable, degradable, decomposable or compostable, and we make no other environmental claim about them or about any of our products: we do not say they are recycled or recyclable either. If the maker’s packaging for the rolls ever carries such a word, we will not ship the bags in it.

Throwing them away: tie a used bag closed and put it in a trash can. Never flush it, and do not put it in a compost bin, a yard-waste bin or a recycling bin. Never leave a bag on the ground or hang it on a branch or a fence. Some cities and parks have their own rules for dog waste: follow the signs. Empty roll cores and packaging follow your local rules. More on disposal is on our Fit & Safety page.

Asking for the documents

You can ask us for what we have received for any product: the maker’s description of its materials and, once we have them, the lab report for our units and the maker’s statement on the bags. E-mail contact@sanpodog.com with “Materials” in the subject line and the name of the product. We reply within 2 business days, send you what we can share, and tell you plainly what is still pending.

If something on this website does not match the product you received, or you see a claim you think we should not make, please tell us too. We correct it.

For the daily walk.

Sanpo is the Japanese word for a walk: the easy, everyday kind, around the block or through the park.
